Susan Washco: As for your amphibians, you appear to have two species. The female is a red spotted toad (Bufo punctatus; has the horizontal pupil and raised paratoid gland behind eye), and the male is a Great Basin spadefoot toad (Spea intermontana; has vertical pupils and black spots on the hind feet spurs (seen in image 0485)). I've heard that the red spotted toads are pretty casual about interbreeding, it's not uncommon to see amplexus with another species.
